So, I completely disappeared for over a month. I'm sorry. I'm back!

School has been kicking my butt lately, but my last day of finals is tomorrow, praise the Lord!

In honor of my return to blogland, I'm posting a pattern! :D YAY!
I went to Dallas ComicCon on Saturday the 5th of April, and I had a blast! I wore the Saffron costume that I had worked very hard on, which was great because Christina Hendricks, the actress that played her, was there! My experiance meeting her was priceless.

I'd never been to a convention before, so I was a little nervous. When I walked through the door, I approached a fellow dressed as Mal because he looked like a man who knew what I needed to know. Turns out he did, but his price for the information was a picture with this Devil Woman. He led me right to her table, where there was a relatively short line. I waited patiently for a few moments, listening while the lovely Miss Hendricks talked to the people in front of me. She is so beautiful in person! (she is my ultimate girlcrush). But, and this is where the really cool part starts, I kid you not, half way through a conversation with another patron she caught sight of me out of the corner of her eye. She STOPPED talking to the person, went "Ooooh!" took out her camera phone, and snapped a picture of me, them went back to buisness as usual.

I waited a few more minutes, and then finally it was my turn! She kept going on about my attention to detail and how accurate I looked! She loved my shawl-- I took it off so she could see it better and she just went on and on about it. She knits too! Hearing her compliment my work meant so much to me! She even signed my autograph to "my twin"! She really made my first convention amazing.
After posting pictures of my costume, I received an overwhelming amount of reqests for the pattern on livejournal and at Ravelry, so without further ado, the Mrs. Reynold Shawl pattern.\

(this is by no means screen-accurate, but if it's good enough for the REAL Saffron, its good enough for me :D Oh, and I don't own anything related to Firefly, Serenity, or Mutant Enemy-- that's all Joss's territory. I just obsess over it...)

1st-Aug-2008 11:12 pm (UTC) - She is a knitter, you know,
and knows good work:

This is your first show that's gotten picked up for a second season. How has being on a successful show changed your day-to-day life?

All my friends are like, "What are you doing? We never see you. You're not in knitting club, you're not at this." . . . It's certainly not a complaint, but as far as how it's changed my life, it's like, "Oh, this is a much more full-time career than it was a few years ago, I better be on top of this!"

Yeah, when I met her we actually talked about knitting-- my friend was wearing a Jayne hat I knitted, and she said it looked just like the one that all of the cast got. She was impressed with my crochet because she only ever uses it as edging, not a whole piece. It was SO awesome to get to meet her and talk to her on such a personable level.
2nd-Aug-2008 04:41 pm (UTC) - kewl!
these times will change, but it was good then for her to reach out to a fellow crafter.
